FGM Enhanced Data set

The FGM Enhanced Dataset is part of a national prevalence study that aims to develop a greater understanding of the extent and prevalence of FGM in England, across all age ranges and communities. Having a greater understanding of prevalence in practice will also support appropriate health service commissioning and development.

GPs are recognised to be in a strong position to identify potential FGM in their patients, and record FGM status using specific codes. Practices have been expected to submit data under the FGM Enhanced Dataset information standard since October 2015 however it is recognised that the data extraction system to support this function needed further development.

It has been identified that GPs would benefit from additional support to submit data to the NHS Digital CAP (Clinical Audit Platform):

The FGM Data Collection – Please see NHS Digital guidance booklet that has been developed to support practice staff understand more about the uploading process.
