You visit your doctor and agree to see a specialist for further care or advice. You discuss with your doctor where you would like to have your appointment.
Your doctor sends your appointment request to the PRS (including notes about your medical condition, your appointment preferences and how you would like to be contacted*). A doctor at the PRS reads the notes sent by your GP and short lists several service options that suit your needs.
Within four to five days of your GP visit, a PRS advisor will contact you to discuss your Choice of further care. The advisor will be able to give you information about which appointments are available to you and can provide practical advice, such as transport details, to help you decide between your appointment options.
The advisor will book your chosen appointment and send you a confirmation letter. (If the advisor has not been able to contact you by phone, you will be sent a provisonal appointment selected by the advisor to suit your needs. However, if this appointment is not convenient, you may call the PRS to change the place, date or time.
